Benjamin L. Thornton graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Brown University with a B.A. in History in May 2024. Benjamin was accepted to the Harvard Law School class of 2029 through their Junior Deferral Program.
During his time at Brown, Benjamin studied history with a field of focus in law and society. Benjamin’s capstone paper, ‘Discordant: The Special Enforcement of Musical Speech in American Law and Society,’ explored exceptions to free speech laws for words that are sung. In the summer before his senior year, through the Brown in Washington program, Benjamin interned at an education technology startup where he wrote a research paper that critically examined the criminal justice system in the context of school disciplinary procedures.
