On May 14, 2022, Jay Nanavati participates in a panel entitled, "Search Warrants, Subpoenas and Summonses: Recent Taxpayer Challenges and Legal Developments" for "Hybrid 2022 May Tax Meeting" hosted by the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation. Description: During criminal tax investigations, the Government has many evidence-gathering tools and processes at its disposal, including search warrants, subpoenas and summonses. In civil tax cases, the Government frequently uses summonses to gather information and documents. This panel will discuss the Government’s use of these tools, recent taxpayer challenges, including those involving the use of filter teams, and legal developments in this area. The panel will also discuss best practices for representing your clients and protecting privileges when you learn of a search warrant, or service of a summons or subpoena.
